At Commvault GO 2018 held last month, Robert Hammer, COO, and Al Bunte introduced technologies that dramatically simplify enterprise backup and recovery and implement the cloud as an extension of the data center, as well as data management methods based on automation, AI, and machine learning.

“Companies like Amazon, Waze, and Netflix are already leveraging cutting-edge technologies like AI and machine learning to develop convenient software, and these innovations are reshaping the data protection market and, by extension, the digital economy,” said CEO Robert Hammer. “Today’s businesses are facing not only a surge in the volume and variety of data, but also a rapid proliferation of applications, on-premises infrastructure, and multi-cloud environments.”

He also emphasized, “With ransomware and cyberattacks becoming increasingly sophisticated, companies are trying to comply with strict data and privacy regulations and utilize data analytics to establish business strategies,” and “IT must no longer be limited to a means of operational support, but must lead to actual business results.”

At Commvault GO 2018, Commvault announced partnerships with HPE, NetApp, and others and showcased key features of Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery Software, its unified data backup, recovery, and management solution. Additionally, we presented how this solution can be used to modernize, simplify, and streamline enterprise data management.

Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery software automates routine and repetitive tasks through Autonomous Operations, automatically balancing loads, auto-correcting schedules, and optimizing storage utilization, all while improving employee productivity and backup and recovery performance. Dynamic Recovery automatically monitors enterprise infrastructure, operations, resources, and data protection service-level agreements (SLAs), then dynamically adjusts all workloads to meet specific recovery SLAs. Intelligent Anomaly management enhances detection capabilities with smart filters that identify which anomalies require immediate action and which do not, allowing administrators to receive alerts only for those that require immediate action.
Commvault Cloud also enables enterprise clouds to evolve beyond simple storage into an extension of the data center. With native support for over 60 cloud providers and built-in workload awareness, Commvault solutions automate cloud infrastructure provisioning, as well as instance optimization, scaling, creation, destruction, and transformation. These cloud tools enable enterprises to maximize cloud cost and management benefits for cloud storage expansion, actively use cloud data for disaster recovery (DR), development and testing, and leverage AI and machine learning capabilities built into cloud services.

The following presentation session introduced Commvault Activate, which provides broader and deeper discovery, profiling, and mapping capabilities for data stored in the cloud, on-premises, virtual storage, and mobile devices through indexing, metadata analysis, and visualization reporting capabilities. The insights gained from this data discovery feature can be leveraged to improve business performance across the enterprise.

Furthermore, the Commvault Activate for Sensitive Data application provides insights into stored personal or other relevant data that can be used to meet compliance requirements for data privacy regulations such as the GDPR (European Union General Data Protection Regulation) and California's Privacy Rule.

It also provides “notification capabilities for anomalies requiring immediate action, simple and easy-to-use cloud-based data management tools, and optimizes storage and reduces compliance issues and data risks across the enterprise,” he added.
