Xilinx XQ UltraScale+

Xilinx launched its defense-grade XQ UltraScale+ product portfolio on the 16th.

This portfolio offers the benefits of UltraScale+ architecture products. Additionally, it is based on an extended temperature range and a rugged package to address key requirements of the aerospace and defense industries, and has passed the U.S. Army MIL-STD-883 Group D quality test.

The new products, comprised of XQ Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs and RFSoCs, as well as XQ UltraScale+ Kintex and Virtex FPGAs, are programmable silicon solutions with a line for demanding operating environments that require high levels of security and reliability and are size, weight and power (SWaP) sensitive.

The XQ UltraScale+ product portfolio is a single-chip solution for aerospace and defense applications, built on TSMC's 16nm FinFET process technology to deliver a highly integrated solution that delivers at least double the performance per watt compared to previous generations.

The portfolio includes the industry’s first defense-grade heterogeneous multi-processor SoC device comprising a quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 embedded processor and a dual-core Arm Cortex-R5 embedded processor, along with 16Gb/s and 28Gb/s transceivers, high-performance programmable logic and DSPs with flexibility and dynamic reconfigurability. It also features high-speed 4Gsps ADCs and 6.4Gsps DACs, an Arm Mali-400 GPU, 4k60 H.265/H.264 video codec capabilities, and optional ruggedized packaging supporting a -55°C to 125°C temperature range and a 256-bit Physical Unclonable Function (PUF).

The highly integrated programmable SoCs in this portfolio offer significant advantages over traditional approaches that require customers to source or use multiple chips. It also offers several other benefits, including ideal SWaP requirements for civil and military aircraft, as well as other defense system applications that require extended temperature ranges, stable environments, long life, and the highest level of security.

“Xilinx has built a strong foundation of experience serving the aerospace and defense industry for over 30 years, and we are excited to announce our defense-grade product portfolio,” said David Gamba, senior director, aerospace and defense, Xilinx. “This new line builds on our currently shipping UltraScale and 7 series defense-grade product families, providing customers with a robust array of options to meet their most demanding application requirements.”
