29% reduction in collisions, 60% reduction in injuries
Mobileye solutions can be installed on all vehicles

Intel announced on the 16th that Abellio London, one of London's major bus operators, has launched a pilot project to verify the safety technology of Intel subsidiary Mobileye.
This pilot project is being supported by Transport for London (TfL) through its Bus Safety Innovation Fund. Focusing on reducing collisions between buses and bicycles, motorcycles, pedestrians, and other road users, the results obtained so far show that Mobileye's collision avoidance technology has reduced collisions by 29% and injuries resulting from these collisions by 60%.

Mobileye's aftermarket collision avoidance technology, utilized in Avellio London's safety technology testing program, is a solution developed by the team creating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicle technologies. This solution can be installed on almost any vehicle already on the road. Especially in the case of buses, the Mobileye system provides drivers with essential voice and visual warnings to assist in collision prevention or mitigation.

Abellio London operates 48 bus routes across London and has over 740 vehicles. For this pilot project, Mobileye collision avoidance technology was installed on 66 buses on three of Abellio London's routes by installing one camera on the inside of the windshield and one display in the driver's seat.

According to data from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation, there were 119,000 injury-causing collisions involving large trucks or buses in the United States in 2016. In the same year, there were 4,440 fatal collisions involving large trucks and buses.

Collision avoidance technology plays a crucial role in reducing not only the number of collisions but also the number of casualties. Interim results from Avellio London's Mobileye technology test project suggest that collision avoidance systems can bring about significant safety improvements not only in the United States but also globally. Furthermore, it indicates that various cities and regions outside of London can easily achieve stricter bus safety standards.

Meanwhile, the final results of this pilot project are scheduled to be released at the end of this year.
