Sophia University Launches Mentoring Program

Acronis announced on the 11th that it has established a new branch office and R&D center in Sofia, Bulgaria. Located in central Europe, the Bulgarian R&D center is designed to provide strategic customer support and a broad workforce.
The Bulgarian R&D Center, located in St. Stefano, central Sofia, doubles as a cybersecurity operations center. Like existing cybersecurity operations centers across the Americas, Asia, and Europe, it monitors data protection systems in customer environments in the region and supports R&D center engineers with up-to-date threat intelligence, enabling them to respond quickly. The Bulgarian R&D Center currently employs approximately 30 engineers, with plans to expand to 50 by the end of the year.

In particular, the Bulgarian Cyber Security Operations Center conducts core research and development on artificial intelligence and blockchain-based cybersecurity technologies. All research data is shared with over 500 engineers in cybersecurity operations centers around the world, monitoring various security threat scenarios and applying them to the development of innovative products.

Acronis has also partnered with Sofia University in Bulgaria to foster cybersecurity talent as part of the Acronis Foundation initiative. The Acronis Foundation, an educational foundation established to commemorate the company's 15th anniversary, aims to create educational opportunities as a means of disseminating and protecting knowledge. Acronis plans to provide internships and mentoring in software engineering for Sofia University students.

“Acronis plans to invest $50 million in Bulgaria and hire around 300 high-tech professionals,” said Serguei Beloussov, Acronis co-founder and CEO. “Our collaboration with Sofia University is part of this commitment to community development, and we believe that these talented individuals, who have undergone systematic training, will become Acronis’ future core competencies.”

He added, “The Bulgarian branch and R&D center will operate as key outposts in the global market, along with the US, Switzerland and Singapore.”
