Strengthening mutual growth through the establishment of a Smart Factory Support Center
60 billion won investment over 5 years, targeting 2,500 SMEs

Samsung Electronics announced on the 13th that it established a Smart Factory Support Center as part of its regular organizational restructuring on the 12th.
The Smart Factory Support Center is an organization directly under the CEO and is an upgraded version of the 'Smart Factory Support Task Force' established in 2015 to systematically promote smart factory support projects. This reorganization is a measure to implement the 'Smart Factory Construction Project,' which is one of the 'economic revitalization and job creation plans' announced by Samsung on August 8.

With the establishment of the Smart Factory Support Center, Samsung Electronics’ smart factory support projects and win-win activities aimed at enhancing the manufacturing competitiveness of domestic SMEs are gaining further momentum.

Samsung Electronics extended its support program for building smart factories for domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, which had been implemented for three years starting in 2015, for five years from 2018 to 2022.

Samsung Electronics has expanded its support from existing support activities focused on strengthening manufacturing competitiveness to comprehensive support activities that build a sustainable system, ranging from workforce training and technology acquisition to patent opening and market development, to help small and medium-sized enterprises secure self-reliance in preparation for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

To this end, Samsung Electronics, together with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, is raising a total of 100 billion won over the next five years, with 10 billion won each year, to expand smart factories to 2,500 small and medium-sized enterprises.

Samsung Electronics also added a total of 10 billion won in funding over five years for supporting excellent products, holding technology exhibitions, and discovering and matching domestic and international business partners or investors.

Samsung Electronics is stepping up its support by signing a 'Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation on the Supply and Expansion of Smart Factories' with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Federation of SMEs and Startups in October.

In addition to this, a total of about 150 employee experts have been selected in areas such as manufacturing site innovation, factory operating systems, and manufacturer assimilation to be stationed at or regularly visit the sites of companies supported by smart factories, transferring manufacturing know-how tailored to the specific needs of the companies.

Samsung Electronics expects that through expanded support over the next five years, the establishment of smart factories will strengthen the overall competitiveness of not only partner companies but also general domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, thereby expanding sales. />
In addition, it is expected to contribute to the creation of social value by improving corporate culture through manufacturing site innovation and laying the foundation for innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises.

It is expected that this will create approximately 15,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics carried out a smart factory construction project for 1,086 companies over three years, starting with 120 small and medium-sized enterprises in 2015, followed by 479 in 2016 and 487 in 2017.

Small and medium-sized enterprises that have established smart factories have seen improvements in quality and productivity by 54% and 58%, respectively, an increase in new sales of approximately 1.9 trillion won, and an increase of 4,600 jobs.
