C-V2X, communication between vehicles, pedestrians, and traffic infrastructure

On the 14th, KT succeeded in developing commercialization technology for Cellular V2X (C-V2X).

KT developed a C-V2X vehicle terminal in cooperation with the domestic small and medium-sized enterprise IT Telecom.

C-V2X is a technology that identifies and transmits real-time situations between vehicles, between vehicles and pedestrians, and between vehicles and traffic infrastructure, capable of transmitting information that is difficult to detect with sensors or cameras mounted on vehicles.

The C-V2X vehicle terminal developed this time is currently in the prototype stage and was developed as part of the Giga Korea Project Group's autonomous driving demonstration project. The C-V2X vehicle terminal will be installed in autonomous vehicles and is scheduled to undergo technology verification at three testbeds in Seoul, Daegu, and Pangyo. In addition, a 5G-V2X vehicle terminal with added 5G communication is also under development.

In addition to V2X technology, KT is focusing on developing various autonomous driving technologies utilizing 5G. Through its 5G network slicing technology, KT plans to provide a dedicated vehicle network to guarantee the security and QoS of vehicle communication. When 5G network slicing technology is combined with V2X technology, it enables the high security and ultra-low latency information transmission required by autonomous vehicles when exchanging data between vehicles.

KT has been developing safer autonomous driving technology by combining 5G with autonomous driving. Based on this technology, the company demonstrated its technological prowess by introducing 5G autonomous vehicles at various events, including the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the Pangyo 5G autonomous bus experience, the Yeongdong-daero autonomous driving experience, and the K-City completion ceremony. In particular, the nation's first real-road 5G autonomous bus platooning and the remote control of autonomous vehicles demonstrated at the K-City completion ceremony served as opportunities to showcase KT's advanced technological capabilities.

Jeon Hong-beom, Head of KT's Convergence Technology Institute, said, "The development of this C-V2X terminal is significant in that it brings the core technology of 5G autonomous driving, which KT demonstrated at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, to the level of actual commercialization," adding, "KT will continue to present a blueprint for future vehicle services."
