Keysight and Samsung Electronics Successfully Complete Latest 3GPP 5G NR Interoperability Test

Keysight Technologies announced on the 21st that it demonstrated maximum 5G NR data throughput using the Keysight UXM 5G wireless test platform and Samsung Electronics' 5G NR Exynos Modem 5100, based on Keysight's 5G NR network emulation solution.

This achievement through collaboration between the two companies has become a milestone supporting the acceleration of 5G ultra-broadband wireless communication (eMBB) applications, and is evaluated as a solution that successfully led full-stack interoperability and development testing (IODT) based on 3GPP 5G NR Release 15 specifications. The demonstration validated maximum data throughput utilizing 256QAM and 4x4 MIMO technology.
With the Keysight 5G NR network emulation solution, the mobile device ecosystem can verify the performance of new 5G mobile devices in cable and OTA (over-the-air) test environments, and accelerate 5G technology development in both sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequencies.
Kailash Narayanan, Vice President and General Manager of Keysight's Wireless Test Division, stated, "Keysight is supporting chipset manufacturers so their designs meet the latest 5G NR standards and can resolve technical challenges arising from the adoption of next-generation mobile communication technology."
Meanwhile, Keysight and Samsung Electronics are continuously working to accelerate early 5G performance, and have been collaborating for over two years for 5G technology advancement. Samsung Electronics is utilizing Keysight's 5G Protocol R&D toolset and 5G RF Design Verification toolset for protocol and RF development and verification using the latest 3GPP 5G NR Release 15 standard. These toolsets are provided as part of Keysight's end-to-end 5G network emulation portfolio.
Heo Un-haeng, Senior Executive of Samsung Electronics' System LSI Protocol Development Team, stated, "By leveraging Keysight's end-to-end 5G test solution, we were able to accelerate Samsung Electronics' new 5G design development and verification across the entire workflow, from early prototyping through design validation and manufacturing."

Five Challenges 5G NR Device Designers Must Overcome <3> Effectively Using Beam Steering Technology at mmWave Frequencies
Using mmWave frequencies with wide channel bandwidth can increase data throughput. However, mmWave frequency signals experience signal propagation issues such as increased path loss and reduced penetration through walls and windows. Beam steering and beamforming techniques can combine multiple antenna elements to generate high-gain directional beams that can be delivered to specific users. Multiple stages of testing are required during the design of 5G NR devices. Early in the design phase, designers must validate protocol procedures to verify that the device can connect to the network. This includes testing initial access and beam management operations as the device moves across the network. A network emulator simulates network commands during testing and captures the behavior generated from the device. Designers must also validate the RF performance of the device through simulation and hardware prototyping. In both models, designers must measure and optimize RF characteristics such as EVM and ACPR.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event.
