Infineon Technologies announced on the 5th that it is launching a new family of embedded power ICs.
The TLE985x series offers highly integrated H-bridge driver motor control solutions that meet AEC Q-100 requirements for two-phase DC and single-phase brushless DC motors. These ICs support relay replacement in low-end motor control applications such as sunroofs and window lifts. Switching from relays to MOSFETs can reduce system costs.

The new product line offers current-sensing amplifiers with PWM control and calibration, enabling motor current regulation and optimization of the mechanical device and motor according to application needs. This also enables miniaturization of circuit boards and motors, while simultaneously achieving improved noise performance.

The TLE985x devices integrate an ARM Cortex-M0 processor and peripheral functions related to motor control, power supply, and communication. They offer two measurement units (analog-to-digital converters) capable of measuring temperature, battery voltage, and four monitoring inputs, saving pins. These inputs can operate directly from battery voltage, eliminating the need for additional components such as external voltage dividers or shutdown transistors, thereby saving cost. These chips also provide two full-duplex serial interfaces (UARTs) supporting LIN.

The TLE985x family includes an adaptive MOSFET driver. Using a control algorithm, the gate current can be automatically adjusted based on the required switching time, allowing for system-level compensation of MOSFET parameters. This allows for system optimization, taking into account both electromagnetic emissions (EME, slow slew rate) and power dissipation (short dead time).

The series includes five configurations, offering a variety of flash sizes (48 to 96 KB) and temperature ranges (Tj up to 175°C). It also offers a variety of half-bridge drivers for unidirectional or bidirectional DC motors.

All TLE985x products are based on the same hardware and software platform as Infineon's other embedded power products (TLE984x, TLE986x, and TLE987x), enabling software reuse across products. They are available in a leadless VQFN package measuring 7 mm x 7 mm.

TLE985x devices will begin sampling this month.
