The 'Smart Factory + Automation World 2019' will be held for three days from the 27th to the 29th at the entire COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, under the theme of 'Digital Transforming in Manufacturing'.
This exhibition marks its third year as an event designed to showcase domestic and international smart manufacturing technological achievements, such as smart factory solutions and equipment, IIoT, and 5G, and to generate public interest in smart manufacturing innovation.

The exhibition area has been expanded by 25% compared to the previous year, and the event is being held on the largest scale ever, with 490 companies related to smart manufacturing, including Siemens and Hyundai Heavy Industries, setting up 1,750 booths.

On the 27th, the first day of the event, an opening ceremony will be held with the attendance of officials from smart factory suppliers and related organizations, including the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Siemens Korea, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Ina Oriental Motor.

At the opening ceremony, outstanding smart factory supply and demand companies such as Yeonwoo (Minister of SMEs and Startups Award) and Shinsung E&G (Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award), Awards are presented to persons of merit.

At the exhibition hall, visitors can view the latest technologies in the manufacturing process—ranging from design and manufacturing to inspection, packaging, and logistics—all in one place, including smart robots that build other robots, as well as sensors, machine vision, and smart logistics robots.

In particular, smart manufacturing can be experienced through future-type smart factories combined with 5G, collaborative robots capable of working simultaneously with humans, smart logistics robots utilizing big data, and experience spaces utilizing VR and AR.

On the 28th and 29th, 37 conferences and seminars optimized for 2019 industry trends, including the '4th IIoT Innovation DAY,' smart factories, robotics, and digital twin machine vision, will be held. This will be an opportunity to obtain relevant information, such as international trends and leading technologies that are difficult to access online, and for officials from companies and specialized institutions to network.

A public hearing on the 'Smart Manufacturing Technology R&D Roadmap' will also be held on the 28th.

This roadmap is a draft prepared by experts from various fields, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, major research institutions, and smart factory supply and demand companies, through a subcommittee since last December. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, together with the Ministry of Science and ICT, plans to add and supplement foundational technologies such as 5G and security, and finalize the roadmap after collecting additional online opinions following the public hearing.

An official from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups expressed anticipation for the exhibition, stating, “In the face of increasingly fierce international competition, our manufacturing industry will be able to find new opportunities and breakthroughs through smart manufacturing innovation.”

An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, “For smart manufacturing innovation, it is important to achieve the deployment of 30,000 smart factories by 2022, expand advanced smart factories, and strengthen and foster the competitiveness of the smart manufacturing industry that forms the foundation.”

He added, “The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will continue to cooperate to ensure that the smart manufacturing industry firmly establishes itself as a genuine new industrial sector and that supply and demand policies related to smart factories are organically linked.”
