Infineon Technologies announced on the 29th that it is adding a new Easy 3B package to its Easy family.

Infineon offers a diverse portfolio of power modules in the 12 mm height without base plate by adding the Easy 3B package to the Easy 1B and 2B packages.

Easy 3B is a platform that enables current inverter designs to be scaled to higher power without major mechanical changes.

The new package retains the same benefits as its predecessor, such as a flexible pin grid system that is essential for customization.

The first product available in the new package is a 400A three-level advanced neutral point clamping (ANPC) device for 1500V solar inverter applications.

Demand for 1500V inverters for grid-scale solar power installations is increasing.

According to IHS, total global shipments in this voltage class reached 32.7 GW in 2018. This voltage rating is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 20.6 percent over the next five years.

To meet this market demand, Easy 3B adopts the latest IGBT technology with a 950V withstand voltage. The footprint is 110mm x 62mm, which is 2.5 times larger than Easy 2B.

This module enables the design of efficient inverters with rated powers up to 150 kW and can achieve power densities exceeding 500 W/L.
