Samsung Executive Vice President Choi Won-joon Delivers Keynote Address on the 5G Era
The 'Korea Internet Conference 2019 (KRnet 2019)', hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and co-organized by nine related organizations including the Korea Internet & Security Agency, will be held for two days from the 24th to the 25th at the InterContinental Seoul COEX Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
KRnet 2019, held to introduce the latest technological trends related to the Internet at home and abroad and to explore the future direction of technological development of the Internet, has been held annually since the first Korea Academic Computer Network Workshop in July 1993.
KRnet 2019, now in its 27th year, will feature approximately 70 technology session lectures and discussions on 5G, AI and big data, security, autonomous driving, humanities convergence, IoT, cloud and edge computing, immersive content, blockchain, and open source, introducing future technology trends and exploring development directions through collaboration under the theme of “Creating Better for the Future.”
At this event, four keynote speakers, comprised of IT experts, will look into the future of change in the 5G era and discuss strategies for surviving in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. He gives lectures on vision, etc.
On the first day, Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President Won-Joon Choi and Hanyang University Professor Chang-Kyung Kim, former Second Vice Minister of Education, Science and Technology, will deliver keynote speeches on the topics of "Changes and Future Prospects in the 5G Era" and "What is the Data Economy?"
On the second day, former Minister of Information and Communication and CEO of Skylake Investment, Jin Dae-je, and Professor Lee Jong-kwan of Sungkyunkwan University will deliver keynote speeches on the topics of “The Role of the Government and Companies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution” and “A New Vision for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” respectively.
In addition, the Internet Promotion Award and Internet Technology Award will be presented at the event reception to individuals who have contributed to the development of the industry through the development of broadcasting and communications and Internet technology.

The surge in IDC traffic in the 5G era… FPGAs are the answer.
The importance of data centers and the utilization rate of IoT devices have increased significantly in recent years. Consequently, the demand for FPGAs is gradually rising in various application fields that previously relied mainly on conventional processors. This is because FPGAs offer better efficiency than traditional processors for specialized purposes. Agilex, the first FPGA released by Intel following its acquisition of Altera, has drawn attention as a semiconductor manufactured using Intel's 10nm process. An even more interesting aspect is that it supports CXL specifications, a recently disclosed next-generation interface standard, as well as PCIe 5.0. Agilex can secure sufficient bandwidth even when used alongside dedicated accelerators such as CPUs and GPUs. Moreover, it not only supports ultra-high-speed memory such as DDR5 and HBM2, but also supports Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory.

ADI Launches mmWave 5G Network Infrastructure Support Solution
Analog Devices has launched a solution for mmWave 5G wireless network infrastructure. Achieving a high level of integration to alleviate the design requirements and complexity of next-generation cellular network infrastructure, this solution includes ADI's advanced beamformer IC and up/down frequency conversion, along with additional mixed-signal circuits. The new mmWave 5G chipset consists of the 16-channel ADMV4821 dual/single polarization beamformer IC, the 16-channel ADMV4801 single polarization beamformer IC, and the ADMV1017 mmWave UDC.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
유럽특허청(EPO)의 ‘기술 대시보드 2025’에 따르면 지난해 유럽 특허 출원은 20만1974건으로 처음 20만건을 넘었다. 한국 기업과 발명가의 출원은 1만4355건으로 전년보다 9.5% 증가해 국가별 5위를 유지했다. 배터리와 디지털 통신, 반도체가 증가세를 이끌었고, 삼성은 2년 연속 EPO 최대 출원 기업, LG는 3위에 올랐다. 서울·수원·용인 등 국내 주요 도시의 존재감도 확인됐다. 한국의 유럽 특허 전략이 개별 기술을 넘어 산업 전반으로 확장되고 있다는 점도 드러났다.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
