Xilinx Launches Vitis, an Integrated Software Platform for Adaptive Hardware

Xilinx announced the launch of Vitis™, an integrated software platform designed to enable developers across various fields to leverage the benefits of adaptive hardware.
The Vitis integrated software platform developed by Xilinx is said to enable the automatic implementation of software or algorithm code tailored to Xilinx hardware architectures, even without hardware expertise.

The Vitis platform enables developers to focus solely on developing their own algorithms by connecting with general-purpose software developer tools instead of proprietary development environments, thereby allowing them to utilize a rich set of optimized open-source libraries.
In addition, while Vivado Design Suite, a program support tool utilizing hardware code, continues to be supported, the separately provided Vitis platform can also increase the productivity of hardware developers by supporting hardware module packages as software-callable functions.
Victor Peng, President and CEO of Xilinx, pointed out, “As the demand for computing explodes, engineers and scientists are increasingly being constrained by fixed-form silicon,” and added, “Xilinx [supports] programmers and engineers in all fields“We have created a single development environment that allows users to develop and optimize hardware and software together using tools and frameworks they are already familiar with. This enables the hardware architecture to be tailored to the application without using new silicon,” they stated.

Xilinx's trajectory, which can be considered the ancestor of traditional FPGAs, is noteworthy. Xilinx's FPGA business, which began as an emulator for semiconductor ASICs, has challenged the market as a platform with adaptive acceleration as its strength, threatening the CPU and GPU markets previously dominated by established players. Applications requiring fast processing, such as AI, machine learning, and big data processing, require fast server-level processing and efficient computing resource utilization. For these reasons, FPGAs have been widely used in servers within data centers to assist in CPU and GPU acceleration, and Intel's acquisition of Altera is also being utilized in the direction of CPU acceleration for existing X86 servers.

Xilinx Launches Adaptive Computing Accelerator 'Alveo U50'
자일링스는 데이터 센터 가속기 카드 알베오 U50을 출시했다. 알베오 U50은 컴퓨팅 및 네트워크, 스토리지의 핵심 작업부하를 재구성 가능한 단일 플랫폼으로 처리할 수 있도록 설계됐으며, PCIe Gen 4를 지원하는 로우프로파일 적응형 가속기 카드다. U50은 클라우드 마이크로 서비스와 같은 새로운 동적 작업부하 문제를 해결할 수 있도록 처리량 및 지연시간, 전력 효율을 10~20배까지 향상시킬 수 있다. 네트워킹 및 스토리지 작업부하를 가속화할 수 있도록 데이터에 보다 근접하여 컴퓨팅을 수행함으로써 개발자들이 지연 및 데이터 이동 병목현상을 식별하고, 제거할 수 있도록 한다.
