Worth of 150mm SiC Wafers to ST
As demand for silicon carbide (SiC) power devices increases, ST is actively expanding its suppliers of silicon carbide wafers.
On the 15th, Rohm announced that through its group company SiCrystal, it has agreed to supply SiC wafers to STMicroelectronics for multiple years.
SiCrystal, which holds the top market share in SiC wafer production within Europe, will supply ST with 150mm SiC wafers valued at over 120 million dollars going forward.
Jean-Marc Chery, ST Chairman and CEO, stated, "Through this long-term SiC wafer supply agreement with SiCrystal, we have been able to expand our SiC power device production capacity."
Robert Eckstein, President and CEO of Rohm Group SiCrystal, said, "We are pleased to conclude a supply agreement with ST, a long-standing customer," adding, "We will continue to increase wafer supply volumes going forward to consistently provide highly reliable products and expand our SiC business."
Meanwhile, ST is expanding its SiC wafer suppliers by acquiring Norstel AB in December last year and concluding a long-term supply agreement with Cree in January this year.

ST Completes Acquisition of Norstel AB… Strengthening SiC Wafer Production Capabilities
ST Microelectronics has completed the acquisition of Norstel AB, a Swedish silicon carbide wafer manufacturer. Norstel will be fully integrated into ST's global R&D and manufacturing facilities. Production of 150mm bare and epitaxial SiC wafers, as well as 200mm production, will continue, and wide bandgap material R&D operations are also expected to proceed.
