Infineon and Rompower Develop USB PD Wall Outlet Solution

Infineon Technologies is collaborating with Rompower to enhance the system performance of universal USB PD chargers.
Infineon provides semiconductor expertise, while Rompower contributes technological capabilities and system know-how to develop compact high-efficiency charging solutions.

USB PD (Power Delivery) chargers using universal USB Type-C connectors enable battery charging for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, as well as power supply for displays, smart speakers, and other devices. Using this technology allows smartphones to be fast-charged to maximum capacity within one hour.
Additionally, USB PD uses universal USB Type-C connectors and provides more efficient data speeds and power transmission through existing cables than traditional USB or USB Type-A connectors.
According to the agreement, both companies will develop a compact smartphone fast charger and USB PD wall outlet system solution as the first phase of collaboration.
Since the USB PD standard enables maximum power output of 100W, mobile devices can be rapidly charged and also function as a permanently installed adapter. In the medium term, the goal is to reduce demand for adapters and chargers by promoting the use of USB PD charging sockets in public places such as airports and hotels, as well as in homes.
