OPTIREG TLS715B0NAV50, a miniature voltage regulator for battlefield applications
Footprint reduced by more than 60% while thermal resistance remains the same

Infineon Technologies has launched its first product after becoming the first semiconductor company to establish a dedicated production process for automotive flip-chip packages.
The OPTIREG TLS715B0NAV50 ultra-small linear voltage regulator for battlefield applications uses a flip-chip that meets the high quality requirements of the automotive market. When the IC is mounted in the package with the top side facing down and the heat-generating part of the IC is designed to face the bottom of the package and placed close to the PCB, the thermal inductance can be increased by 2 to 3 times.

Additionally, it enables a smaller footprint by increasing power density compared to existing packaging technologies.

The new linear voltage regulator (TSNP-7-8 package, 2.0 mm x 2.0 mm) has a more than 60% smaller footprint than the existing standard product (TSON-10 package, 3.3 mm x 3.3 mm), while maintaining the same thermal resistance.

Suitable for applications with limited board space such as radar or cameras, the OPTIREG TLS715B0NAV50 provides 5V with an output current of up to 150mA.

As the number of radar and camera systems installed in vehicles increases, space constraints are becoming more severe, and miniaturized power supply solutions that meet high quality requirements for battlefield use are in demand.

Flip-chip technology has been used in consumer and industrial applications for many years, but Infineon has moved beyond obtaining additional certifications for existing consumer and industrial products to create a dedicated production process for automotive devices to provide the best flip-chip products for automotive applications.

An Infineon official said, “We plan to strengthen our automotive power supply product portfolio of the OPTIREG family with flip-chip technology,” and “We plan to apply flip-chip technology to switch-mode voltage regulators and power management ICs as well.”
