Establishing an alliance with the Ministry of Science and ICT and six research institutes
Jointly conducting research to predict domestic inflow and regional spread

KT is establishing a "COVID-19 Spread Prediction Research Alliance" in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and ICT and research institutes developing COVID-19 spread prediction models.

The COVID-19 Spread Prediction Research Alliance includes six research institutes developing COVID-19 spread prediction models within the National Life Safety Emergency Response Research Project, currently being jointly promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
KT will provide floating population data to six institutions, including Seoul National University, Konkuk University, Hanyang University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), and will jointly conduct research to predict the domestic inflow and regional spread of COVID-19 using artificial intelligence, big data, and mathematical modeling.

The COVID-19 spread prediction research is managed securely in the Data Safety Zone operated by the Ministry of Science and ICT's Artificial Intelligence Base Policy Bureau. The Data Safety Zone is a space created within the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency (KDATA) to enable research and analysis of potentially sensitive data from public institutions and private companies in a safe environment.

Kim Chae-hee, executive director of KT's AI and Big Data business division, said, "We are working on a project to predict the spread of COVID-19.“We will do our best to ensure that the research results of the former Alliance can be effectively utilized in responding to the national crisis of COVID-19,” he said, adding, “We will continue to make multifaceted efforts to protect the public from pandemic infectious diseases such as COVID-19.”
