LG Electronics, Uplus, and KT Join AI One Team

As AI technology converges across industries, KT and LG Uplus have formed an AI alliance.

On the 3rd, LG Electronics and LG U+ signed a business agreement to participate in 'AI One Team' at the KT Gwanghwamun Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

AI One Team is an industry-academia-research collaboration designed to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic AI industry. It was launched in February of this year by KT, Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Hanyang University, and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).

Based on this agreement, LG U+ and LG Electronics will develop core AI-related technologies and discover new business opportunities through the AI One Team.

At the signing ceremony, the three companies announced their plans to cooperate with other AI One Team participants in ▲solving social problems based on AI capabilities ▲strengthening AI capabilities through sharing existing technologies and infrastructure ▲creating business performance by improving AI competitiveness in products, services, and solutions ▲establishing a talent development platform that connects industry, academia, and research.

First, LG U+ and KT decided to combine their respective data to develop know-how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. LG Electronics plans to propose a new model for preventing the spread of infectious diseases by combining its products with AI technology. The three companies plan to utilize AI to address social issues such as environmental pollution and industrial safety.

We will also strengthen collaboration to generate tangible business results. We will build a new IoT ecosystem by linking LG U+ and KT's home IoT services with LG Electronics' smart appliances, and leverage customer usage data to provide a more convenient service experience.

We will also work together to cultivate AI talent. We plan to participate in practical AI education tailored to the specific characteristics of each industry and in the development of AI professionals, thereby creating a foundation for AI talent to thrive across all industries.

KT AI/DX Business Division Vice President Jeon Hong-beom said, “With LG Electronics and LG Uplus, which have AI capabilities, joining, we expect the collaboration of the AI One Team to accelerate further.”

Beyond AI One Team, companies are actively forming alliances to take the lead in AI, a core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Earlier this year, SK Telecom, Samsung Electronics, and Kakao formed an AI alliance.
