Hyundai Motor Company Launches Ioniq, a Dedicated Electric Vehicle Brand
Aiming for a 20-minute charge and a range of over 450 km


Hyundai Motor Company is launching a dedicated electric vehicle brand.

Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 10th that it has decided on the brand name of its dedicated electric vehicle lineup, scheduled to be launched sequentially starting next year, as 'IONIQ'. Officials explained that launching a separate dedicated electric vehicle brand is an attempt to secure global leadership in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.

Bloomberg New Energy Finance, in its 'Electric Vehicle Outlook 2020' published last May, projected that electric vehicles will account for 58% of new passenger vehicles worldwide by 2040.

The IONIQ lineup consists of ▲compact CUV 'IONIQ 5' (scheduled to be released in 2021), ▲mid-size sedan 'IONIQ 6' (scheduled to be released in 2022), and ▲large SUV 'IONIQ 7' (scheduled to be released in 2024).

Hyundai Motor Company's next-generation electric vehicle-only platform, 'E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform),' will be applied for the first time, and it is planned to be able to charge within 20 minutes and travel over 450 km on a single charge.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Company announced its goal of selling 560,000 electric vehicles by 2025. According to SNE Research, Hyundai ranked 6th globally in electric vehicle sales from January to May this year.
