NXP to Supply BMS Solutions for Volkswagen's MEB EV Platform

NXP and Volkswagen announced that they are collaborating to increase the driving range of electric vehicles (EVs).
Kurt Sievers, CEO of NXP, announced on the 21st in a keynote speech at the annual developer conference 'NXP Connects' that the company is collaborating with Volkswagen in the field of EV electronics.
Volkswagen has introduced NXP's battery management system (BMS) into its modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform to increase driving range, extend battery life, and enhance safety.
“Volkswagen plans to offer up to 75 fully electric vehicle models on the market by 2029,” said Dr. Holger Manz, Head of Vehicle Energy Supply and High-Voltage Systems Development at Volkswagen AG. “EVs with a scalable and functionally safe BMS can easily achieve enhanced battery performance, extended lifespan and optimized driving range.”
The auto industry has been working on EV development for years, but extending driving range remains a key challenge. Volkswagen is expanding EV range with the launch of its ID series, offering a range of battery models with capacities of 45kWh, 58kWh, and 77kWh.
For the medium-sized battery, a 30-minute charge in 100kW DC fast-charging mode will provide a range of up to 260 miles, while the large battery will provide a range of up to 340 miles on a full charge.
“Volkswagen offers its customers a wealth of options for the coming era of electrification,” said Lars Reger, CTO of NXP. “NXP offers scalable, precise system-level solutions across models, making design easier and delivering the highest levels of safety.”
Meanwhile, 16 of the top 20 automakers currently incorporate NXP battery management solutions into their designs.
