Ministry of Science and ICT and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Seek Joint Response Strategy for AI International Standardization

On the 19th, the National Radio Research Institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the '2nd Artificial Intelligence Industry Standardization Workshop' simultaneously online and offline at The K Hotel in Seoul, with the participation of experts from industry, academia, research institutes, and government in the domestic AI field.
International AI standards are currently being discussed in various fields, including big data, AI reliability and ethics, use cases, and AI services, centered around the International AI Standardization Committee (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42), which was established in December 2017, driven by technological development and market growth in the AI field following the emergence of AlphaGo in 2016.
At the event, Professor Jin-Hyung Kim, a distinguished professor at Chung-Ang University, delivered a keynote speech and presented deep learning technologies aimed at becoming a reliable and responsible AI, with the goal of successfully applying AI technology within the industry.
Following this, Professor Cho Young-im of Gachon University, Chairperson of the Domestic Expert Committee on AI Standardization, shared 'Trends in AI International Standardization,' including AI data and the AI service ecosystem, centering on the International AI Standardization Committee (ISO/IEC JTC1 SC42).
And 'AI Data Quality and Issues' by Oh Seong-tak, Head of the National Information Society Agency; 'Data Standardization Framework for AI' by Professor Cho Hyun-bo of Pohang University of Science and Technology; and 'Explanation' by Professor Lee Jae-ho of the University of Seoul. Presentations followed, including 'Possible AI Technologies and Standardization Trends', 'Data Governance for AI' by Professor Kim Kyung-min of Ewha Womans University, and 'Ethics Forum and Guidelines for AI' by Head of Division Lim Seung-ok of the Korea Electronics Technology Institute.
Finally, KT Team Leader Park Jae-hyung spoke on 'KT's AI Technology Development Status and Standardization,' and Selectstar CEO Shin Ho-wook introduced the 'Crowdsourcing-based AI Data Platform,' presenting application examples of AI technology.
The experts participating in this workshop emphasized the importance of standards for the advancement of domestic AI technology and securing industrial competitiveness. In particular, they agreed that AI standardization is essential to ensure interoperability and reliability among AI-based products and services, and that the participation and collaboration of experts from various fields are necessary.

Xilinx Provides Deep Learning Models for AI Medical Device Development
Recent demand in the medical field is increasing for AI-based solutions that rapidly process and analyze patient data collection. The COVID-19 pandemic, where healthcare provider fatigue accumulation has become a problem, is accelerating this trend. As demand for telemedicine is also growing, devices capable of AI processing at the edge are being required. In response, Xilinx has collaborated with Spline.ai to release a medical X-ray classification deep learning model that functions perfectly on AWS and an FPGA-based Zynq UltraScale Healthcare AI Starter Kit.

KAIST Successfully Develops Memory-Centric AI-Accelerated PIM System

ST Microelectronics and NUS Establish Joint Research Center 'HELIX' for Edge AI
ST Microelectronics and the National University of Singapore have established the 'HELIX' joint research center aimed at implementing embedded AI in edge environments.
