Samsung Electronics has launched an LED for intelligent headlamps that secures a contrast ratio of 300:1 while reducing the area to about 1/16th that of general intelligent headlamp LED modules, targeting the market for intelligent headlamps (ADB, Adaptive Driving Beam) used in electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles.

On the 15th, Samsung Electronics launched PixCell LED, an automotive LED module that incorporates cutting-edge LED light source technology.

PixCell LEDs enable more sophisticated intelligent headlamp functions, enabling precise headlamp control based on the driving conditions of vehicles driving ahead or oncoming vehicles in the opposite lane.

The PixCell LED, which consists of about 100 segments (the smallest unit of light-emitting elements that are individually driven by a single LED chip), applies a partition structure to each segment to minimize light interference between segments, achieving a contrast ratio of 300:1, which is three times better than that of existing LEDs.

Additionally, Samsung Electronics utilized semiconductor technology to integrate more than 100 segments into a single LED chip, reducing the light-emitting area to about 1/16th that of a typical intelligent headlamp LED module while still securing the brightness required for the headlamp.

This allows for a simpler design of the optical system and heat dissipation structure when using PixCell LEDs, reducing the size of the headlamp by 30 to 50 mm.It can be reduced to %.

Furthermore, headlamps designed based on Samsung Electronics' PixCell LEDs can use software to adjust the light source to meet various road regulations in each country. This allows headlamp manufacturers to streamline the entire process, from development to production and distribution.
