Chinese media reports have emerged stating that Xiaomi's Surge 5G chip will be released within the year.

Chinese PC Online recently reported that Xiaomi's self-developed Surge 5G chip is expected to be released as early as within this year.

It was also reported that Xiaomi is developing its own SoC for this purpose and is communicating with Samsung.

It was mentioned that five meetings have already been held, and that nothing has been revealed regarding what method of cooperation will be adopted.

Samsung not only has a mobile phone SoC research team but is also capable of advanced foundry processes.

Xiaomi has reportedly planned to build a processor based on the ARM Cortex-X2 and Mali GPU. Although the Cortex-X2 has not been announced, ARM has released the v9 instruction set.

In addition, the two generations of CPU architecture following the X1/A78, codenamed Matterhorn and Makalu respectively, have been previewed, and in terms of peak performance, Makalu in 2022 is expected to increase by 30% compared to the Cortex-A78.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi previously unveiled the Surge C1, an ISP image processing unit used in the MIX Fold, at a spring presentation, stating that the Surge chip has finally returned after four years.
