According to Reuters, TSMC is reportedly planning to build five additional wafer factories outside Arizona, USA.

In May 2020, TSMC announced that it would build a $12 billion semiconductor factory in Arizona.

According to sources, TSMC plans to build as many as six wafer factories within its own premises, with one source saying the company plans to expand its factories in response to a request from the U.S. government.

In April, TSMC participated in a virtual White House summit with executives from other semiconductor companies to discuss ways to address the global semiconductor shortage.

TSMC's plan to spend hundreds of billions of dollars to increase semiconductor production in the United States appears poised to gain the right to produce more chips there.

According to industry sources, TSMC is known to have secured sufficient land for new business expansion.

TSMC Chief Executive Wei Zhejiang briefed the company on a conference call in April about the factory under construction, which he said would begin producing 5nm chips in 2024 and produce 20,000 wafers per month.
