Samsung Electronics is moving into full-scale production of image sensors with the industry's smallest pixel size, supporting slim designs for high-resolution mobile cameras.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 10th that it has launched the industry's first 0.64㎛ (micrometer) 50-megapixel image sensor, the 'ISOCELL JN1'.

The 'ISOCELL JN1' is a high-resolution image sensor with a 1/2.76″ (inch) optical format that is smaller than existing ones, enabling the design of a thin design while enhancing the camera performance of mobile devices.

The 'ISOCELL JN1', with a pixel size of 0.64㎛, has a pixel area that is approximately 16% smaller than that of existing 0.7㎛ pixel image sensors, which reduces the height of the module by approximately 10% and minimizes the camera protrusion phenomenon.

Samsung Electronics has equipped the camera with the latest image sensor technologies, including ISOCELL 2.0, Inter-scene HDR, and Double Super PD, to enable clearer images even in dark environments.

'ISOCELL JN1' is an optimized version of 'ISOCELL 2.0' that minimizes the loss of light received by pixels and interference between pixels, and is comparable to 'ISOCELL Plus'.Improved sensitivity by 16%.

In environments with very bright and dark areas at the same time, such as tunnel entrances, it also features an 'Interscene HDR' function that provides a wide contrast ratio by utilizing data from high-sensitivity and low-sensitivity images.

This product also features "Double Super PD" technology for the first time. "Double Super PD" doubles the number of pixels utilized for autofocus compared to Super PD image sensors with the same pixel count, enabling faster focusing even in 60% less light.

From the early stages of development, Samsung Electronics has worked with camera lens and module manufacturers to build an ecosystem that allows the ‘ISOCELL JN1’ to be compatible with 1/2.8″ products.

It is compatible with lenses and modules of 1/2.8″ products that are commonly installed in wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and telephoto cameras on the front and back of mobile devices, allowing manufacturers to easily apply the ‘ISOCELL JN1’. In particular, it can be installed on the front of mobile devices to obtain high-quality photos even when taking selfies or group photos.
