New Releases in MPLAB's Cloud Tools Ecosystem


Microchip today announced the launch of its new MPLAB Cloud Tools Ecosystem for PIC and AVR MCUs, designed to simplify MCU design. This free, all-in-one cloud platform combines easy, integrated search and example code discovery, graphical project configuration, and code debugging in a collaborative environment. This collaborative environment simplifies software design for users of all skill levels with an easy-to-use browser-based interface and cloud connectivity, while supporting rapid development at enterprise scale.

The MPLAB Cloud Tools Ecosystem integrates three components designed to modernize development workflows for PIC and AVR microcontrollers. Users can easily find complete source code, projects, examples, and software applications, all organized into an easy-to-understand catalog in MPLAB Discover.

The selected code and project can be immediately filled in the 'MPLAB Xpress Integrated Development Environment (IDE)' for further development. △'MPLAB Code Configurator' with easy-to-use graphical configuration provides point-and-click options to set up hardware peripherals and further configure the project.

Specifically, the MPLAB Express IDE provides community collaboration tools using a secure GitHub repository interface control, along with a scalable cloud infrastructure for development and debugging. Developers can download MPLAB Express projects and continue development in MPLAB X IDE. The Express Toolbar provides developers access to MPLAB Discover and MPLAB Code Configurator.

This ecosystem is designed as a front-end to access cloud tools according to the client's development flow, providing quick start guides and introductory materials. It integrates with GitHub public and private repositories for source code storage and sharing, ensuring online security and enabling seamless export and import of online projects to local storage. Secure myMicrochip login is also provided for online sessions.

Microchip offers the Curiosity and Curiosity Nano boards for evaluating and programming 8-bit PIC and AVR MCUs. These platforms include an integrated programmer and debugger, requiring no additional hardware to get started.

The MPLAB Cloud Tools Ecosystem is available free of charge on the Microchip website. Debugging and programming support for the PICkit™ 4 development tool is available for $69.99. The MPLAB SNAP Debugger is available for $30.99. Pricing for the Curiosity and Curiosity Nano boards starts at $18.99.
