A forum has been launched to foster the satellite communications ecosystem, a key component of hyperspace 6G networks.

Strengthening expert communication channels and supporting the industrial ecosystem
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 22nd that a satellite communications forum has been launched to expand the satellite communications industry base and promote communication in preparation for the integration of terrestrial and satellite communications networks, which are the core of the 6G network.
The Satellite Communication Forum's inaugural general meeting was held on Wednesday the 21st as a non-face-to-face online event to prevent the spread of COVID-19, hosted by KAIST Professor Han Young-nam, chairman of the inaugural preparatory committee. Currently, about 20 member companies, including KTSat, Korea Aerospace Industries, Hanwha Systems, LIG Nex1, AP Satellite, and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, are participating, and KTSat has been appointed as the chairman.
Professor Kang Chung-gu of Korea University was appointed as the forum's executive committee chairman, and Director Byun Woo-jin of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Division Director Han Chang-heon of the Korea Aerospace Industries, Professor Hong In-ki of Kyung Hee University, and Professor Kim Jae-hyun of Ajou University were appointed as the chairmen of the four expert committees: Technology, Industry, Frequency, and External Cooperation.
The forum plans to strengthen expert communication channels by conducting research and survey activities with the participation of satellite communications experts from companies, universities, and research institutes, publishing research reports and issue reports, and playing a variety of roles supporting the growth of the satellite communications industry ecosystem, such as making policy recommendations for technological and industrial development and expanding public consensus.
Minister of Science and ICT Lim Hye-sook said in a video congratulatory address, “In order to secure leadership in the upcoming 6G era, it is urgent to secure satellite communication technology essential for hyperspace communication.” She added, “In order to secure domestic satellite communication technology competitiveness, not only R&D but also the creation of an industrial ecosystem is important, and I expect the Satellite Communication Forum to serve as a focal point.”
Meanwhile, Lee Won-wook, chairman of the National Assembly Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, also sent a video message urging the Satellite Communications Forum to “fulfill its role and navigate the space age together.”

According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
