Focused support for seven major tasks in five strategic areas


On the 26th, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) announced the launch of the "Intelligent IoT Application Expansion Flagship Project." From 2016 to 2020, the Ministry invested KRW 40 billion in 116 projects to foster IoT companies.

Starting this year, we will focus on supporting seven representative projects centered on five strategic areas: individuals and small business owners, digital healthcare, energy, logistics and transportation, and manufacturing. The seven tasks are three regional national experience tasks (KRW 6 billion) and four leading services for productivity innovation (KRW 8 billion).

The three regional national awareness tasks are ▲ an IoT-based indoor air quality management system to be demonstrated in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do (supporting individuals and small business owners), ▲ an AR/VR rehabilitation treatment system (digital healthcare) to be applied to nursing hospitals and local care centers, and ▲ an integrated control service for multi-use facilities (safety management) to be built in the Chungbuk Research Institute, Chungbuk Enterprise Promotion Agency, and Cheongju Millennium Town.

The four leading services for productivity innovation are: △AI semi-autonomous driving renewable energy harvesting system △Intelligent IoT integrated cold chain distribution service △Predictive maintenance service (manufacturing) for small and medium-sized equipment manufacturers △Non-face-to-face performance hall based on intelligent IoT robotic musical instruments, etc.

Hong Jin-bae, Director General of Information Security Network Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “Recently, IoT has evolved into the Intelligence of Things (AIoT) and is becoming a major foundation for digital transformation and the Digital New Deal in the post-COVID era.” He added, “Through this representative project, we expect to create results where intelligent IoT will change our daily lives and significantly improve productivity in other industries such as energy and manufacturing.”
