STM32 Discovery Day 2021 to be held on August 17th
Following last year's event, the event will be held online, focusing on IoT-HMI.

As adoption of 5G, AI, IoT, big data, and cloud technologies increases, demand for MCU-based products to support them is also on the rise. Demand for higher performance, increased development complexity, and shorter time-to-market are placing a growing burden on developers.

STMicroelectronics will hold the ' STM32 Discovery Day Online Track 2021' online for three days from the 17th to the 19th.

This series of online seminars showcases the latest solutions and products based on STM32 MCUs, which enhance wireless communication performance, integrate accessibility, and offer new features. Presented by ST experts, the seminars feature hands-on demonstrations and related videos to enhance understanding.

We met with Kyung-Hwa Choi, Director of ST Korea, who gave the welcoming address, and had time to share information about the purpose and structure of the event, as well as the future plans and policies of the STM32 MCU brand.



Q. What was the demand for MCUs last year and in the first half of this year?

A. Last year, demand for COVID-19-related products like test kits was high due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, demand is increasing across a wide range of sectors. Demand is growing steadily, not limited to any specific area.



Q. What is STM32 Discovery Day?

A. ST has been holding this event annually since 2007, when it first introduced the STM32 brand. The current name was finalized in 2017 and is held every summer. As the name suggests, the event aims to provide engineers with STM32 products and related solutions to help them quickly commercialize their products, thereby fostering creative ideas.



Q. Like last year, this year's event will be held online. What are the advantages of an online event?

A. The last event was inevitably held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the event, we had concerns about maintaining attendee concentration, but many people showed interest. Thanks to that encouragement, we decided to hold this year's event online as well.

Online events offer the advantage of allowing many people to attend multiple seminars without having to travel, and we, as organizers, can also organize content from a variety of perspectives. This year, like last year, we plan to present many new products, solutions, and partner cases.



Q. What is the structure of the STM32 Discovery Day 2021 event?

A. This event will showcase new STM32 products and a variety of corresponding solutions. The overarching theme connecting each session is the Internet of Things (IoT) and human-machine interface (HMI) requirements across industries.

The event will explore how STM32 products can address the cost-effectiveness and power-saving requirements of IoT nodes. Furthermore, the STM32 wireless family will be used to propose solutions for the accurate and secure transmission of sensitive data.

We've also prepared solutions and strategies for implementing HMIs using STM32MP1 products and graphics solutions like TouchGFX. Additionally, a speaker from our partner, Hancom MDS, will present multicore debugging methods for STM32MP1 products.



Q. Is there anything you would like to say to the engineers participating in this event?

A. Engineers are feeling the pressure of the growing smart application market. ST wants to help engineers quickly adapt to this market, leveraging its STM32 products. Going forward, ST plans to release not only existing STM32 products but also more STM32 products that meet market demand. We plan to continuously develop and deliver diverse ecosystems and solutions, not just devices, to our customers.



Meanwhile, the three-day STM32 Discovery Day 2021 event will begin with a welcoming speech by Kyung-Hwa Choi, Director of ST Korea, on the first day, followed by three sessions: △STM32 ecosystem overview by Hyun-Seong Hyun, Manager of ST Korea; △ST graphics solution 'TouchGFX' by Du-Hyung Kim, Deputy Manager of ST Korea; and △MS Azure RTOS-based 'STM32Cube' by Hee-Kwon Kang, Deputy Manager of ST Korea.

On the second day, three sessions will provide wireless-related insights, including: △ ST Korea Deputy Manager Lee Jun-ho's ultra-low-power MCU and representative products of the STM32 wireless series; △ ST Korea Deputy Manager Park Si-wan's 'STM32WB'-based audio and video streaming; and △ ST Korea Deputy Manager Lee Hyeon-myeong's 'SRM32WL', a sub-GHz platform for LoRa and Sigfox.

On the last day, the following will be introduced: △STM32 AI solution by ST Korea Manager Moon Hyun-soo, △CubeIDE for development of 'STM32MP1 M4' coprocessor by ST Korea Deputy Manager Jang Tae-jong, and △Hancom MDS tool for 'STM32MP1' multi-core debugging by Hancom MDS Manager Kim Jong-cheon.
