KT Engineering and World Powertech for small and medium-sized power generation
Cooperation in the Steam Turbine Business... Preemptive Response to New Markets


On the 3rd, KT Engineering signed a business agreement with World Powertech to collaborate on the "Small and Medium-Sized Steam Turbines for Power Generation." This agreement aims to proactively address emerging markets by combining the two companies' energy business capabilities, amid the growing adoption of Green New Deal policies to address the climate crisis and achieve a carbon-neutral society.

Since 2009, KT Engineering has been building expertise and capabilities in the energy sector by participating in various public offerings, including the construction of renewable energy facilities like solar power, support for the revitalization of new local energy industries, and smart green city projects. Through this agreement, KT Engineering will enter a new energy business utilizing small and medium-sized steam turbines for power generation.

Steam turbines for small and medium-sized power generation convert steam into electrical energy. They produce lower carbon emissions and are more energy efficient than combined heat and power plants. They can be applied to all sectors that use steam, including waste incinerators, various combined heat and power plants, steel mills, petrochemicals, and the paper industry.

World Powertech, a company specializing in the design and manufacturing of power generation equipment, developed Korea's first small- to medium-sized steam turbine for power generation in 2017, leveraging the technological prowess it has accumulated over the past 20 years while supplying equipment to companies such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan. In the domestic small and medium-sized power generation steam turbine market, which has been entirely dependent on foreign products such as German products, we are currently the only company manufacturing domestic equipment.

Under this MOU, the two companies will collaborate to target the following markets: the steam turbine supply market, the small and medium-sized steam turbine-based power generation facility construction market, and the supply of waste resource treatment equipment. KT Engineering will be responsible for market exploration and customized customer proposals, while World Powertech will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, and delivery of steam turbines and power generation facilities.
