At the 'SK ICT Tech Summit,' where the present and future of SK Group's ICT technology could be viewed, SK ICT Chairman Park Jeong-ho predicted that the metaverse would evolve into a future workspace and communication space.

SK Telecom (CEO and President Yoo Young-sang) held the 'SK ICT Tech Summit 2021' from November 3 to 4, with 22 SK companies participating to showcase a total of 114 technologies across 9 fields including AI, metaverse, cloud, and mobility.

The 'SK ICT Tech Summit' is a venue for sharing core technologies that are leading SK's present and future, with the aim of creating synergy among SK's ICT capabilities and fostering a technology ecosystem. It has been held since 2016, and this year marks the 6th edition.

On the first day, the 3rd, Vice Chairman Park Jeong-ho, Chairman of the SK ICT Committee, appeared as an avatar in the virtual world 'ifland' during the opening and experienced various SK technologies. Vice Chairman Park predicted, “Just as mobile internet has evolved over the past 20 years to become a part of our daily lives, the metaverse will evolve into a future workspace and a space for communication.”

In the subsequent keynote speeches, Professor Ji-Hoon Jung, Unity Korea CEO In-Sook Kim, and SK Telecom CO-Chief Jin-Soo Jeon delivered keynote addresses to discuss the present and future of the metaverse at ifland.

The subsequent SK CTO panel discussion, themed 'Technology for a Better Tomorrow,' featured Kim Yoon, Head of T3K at SK Telecom; Cha Ji-won, Group Leader at SK Inc. C&C; and Do Seung-yong, Head of SK Hynix, who discussed the direction of SK ICT technology evolution and the role of technology for a better future.

At this 'SK ICT Tech Summit,' research achievements were shared, including △SK Telecom's first domestically developed artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor 'SAPEON' △innovation cases through SK Inc. C&C's one-stop digital transformation service 'Digital Doctor' △and cases of manufacturing equipment automation and intelligence through SK Hynix's integrated 3D platform.

On the 4th, as a preliminary event for the 'SK ICT Tech Summit,' presentations and awards will be presented to outstanding teams from the 'AI Challenge for Our Society' theme, which was conducted for a month for university and graduate students. The event was organized by SK Group’s learning platform mySUNI and supported by Microsoft, and among the 76 participating teams and 139 university and graduate students, the student teams from KAIST and Sungkyunkwan University took first place.

Shin Sang-kyu, Head of Corporate Culture at SK Telecom, stated, “Through the SK ICT Tech Summit, we will foster a technology ecosystem to ensure that the group’s internal technologies are actively shared both internally and externally, as well as to further activate cooperation with various partners.”
