The 'Creaform Contest 2021' has brought the fierce competition to win the peel 3D scanner to a close, producing a grand prize winner who grew from a reverse engineering beginner to a semi-professional level using the peel 3D scanner in a short period of one month.

The Creaform Contest 2021, hosted by Creaform and e4ds make from November 1 to December 9, concluded on the 9th with the announcement of the final winner.

This event, held to enhance understanding of reverse engineering using 3D scanners, is evaluated as having raised the level of the competition by going beyond simply distinguishing the reverse engineering capabilities of 3D scanner users and fostering 3D scanner beginners to near-professional levels in a short period of time. It also received favorable reviews for providing in-depth technical training that was helpful to participants in their actual work.

This competition consisted of a total of 4 quests and 2 preworks.

Quest 1 covered scanning and reverse engineering design concept proposal submission, while Quest 2 covered offline training through two official Creaform distributors, basic 3D scanner training, VX model practice, actual product scanning, and object processing.

Quest 3 conducted offline training at 3D Systems and covered the creation of CAD models for reverse engineering and product inspection using Geomagic Design X.

VXInspect training and practice were conducted for Quest 4 through two official Creaform distributors, and the final modeled 3D data was submitted.

Prework was conducted by providing tutorials on VXInspect through the Creaform E-learning program, with participants completing the course and submitting their deliverables.

In particular, certificates of completion were issued to those who completed the Design X SW license and training from Creaform and 3D Systems during this competition.

A total of 59 participants took part in this competition, and Lee Yun-ho of Doksu Gongbang, who transformed the retro game console design by scanning a figure with a 3D scanner, won the competition.

In his thoughts on the competition, Lee Yun-ho said, “I think the biggest opportunity was receiving training in 3D scanning and reverse engineering, which are not easily accessible,” adding, “I was impressed by the fast and precise scanning of the Peel 3D scanner.” "In addition, we were able to quickly and accurately correct and inspect the scanned data, and were surprised by the compatibility with various CAD programs," they stated.

He also mentioned, “Now that I have gained the weapon of a 3D scanner through this contest, I will use the 3D scanner to create even more diverse works and related content in the future.”

The top prize was awarded to Ban Seok-jin, who reverse-engineered a mouse, and Hong Seung-hyun, who reverse-engineered a violin.

Kim Gun-ah, Business Division Manager at Creaform, the organizer of the event, said, “I thank the participants for their efforts in carrying out high-quality projects that were initially planned all the way to the final round,” adding, “We were able to achieve the goals of the event as satisfactory final project results were produced.”

He also stated, “The most outstanding aspect was the effort and capability of the participants, who went from being beginners in reverse engineering to improving their technical skills and entering the early stages of professional user status within the short duration of the contest,” adding, “We made great efforts to uphold the purpose of the competition by managing the challenging schedule of offline training amidst the unprecedented situation of COVID-19. For the second contest next year, we plan to increase the number of participants and create a platform for producing new experts through expanded online and offline training.”

Meanwhile, Lee Yun-ho, who won the grand prize in this contest, will be appointed as a Peel ambassador for one year and will permanently own a Peel 3D Scanner worth 20 million won after working as a Peel influencer for one year.
