SK Telecom (CEO and President Yoo Young-sang) will present green ICT technology for the net-zero era at 'CES 2022'.

From the 5th to the 8th (local time), SKT will participate in 'CES 2022', the world's largest IT and home appliance trade show held in Las Vegas, USA, alongside SK Inc., SK Innovation, SK Hynix, SKE&S, and SK Eco-Planet to establish a joint exhibition booth under the theme of '2030 SK Net-Zero Promise Declaration', showcasing SKT's green ICT technology.

SK Group has set a goal to reduce 200 million tons of carbon, equivalent to 1% of the global carbon reduction target (21 billion tons) as of 2030, and SKT plans to actively contribute to carbon reduction by utilizing innovative green ICT technology.

The AI semiconductor 'SAPEON' being presented this time uses only 80% of the power consumption compared to existing GPUs, making it environmentally friendly, and features deep learning computation speed 1.5 times faster than existing GPUs at half the price.

SKT will also introduce 'Single Radio Access Network (SingleRAN)' technology, which reduces power consumption by approximately 53% compared to conventional methods through integration and upgrade of 3G and LTE network equipment.

Through 'SingleRAN' technology, SKT has secured carbon credits for the first time in the domestic telecommunications sector through greenhouse gas reduction.

SKT completed application to base stations and repeaters located in 78 cities nationwide including Seoul in 2020, and through this can secure approximately 10,000 tons of carbon credits annually.

10,000 tons corresponds to the amount of electricity that approximately 7,600 households in Seoul can use for one year, based on 2019 Seoul electricity consumption statistics.

In addition, SKT will introduce ICT services that can reduce carbon emissions in daily life, such as △metaverse △reusable cup circulation system △optimal route navigation, providing an experience toward a low-carbon society.

An SKT official stated, "At this CES, we plan to showcase cutting-edge technology that can lead the green ICT revolution along with innovative services that can reduce carbon emissions occurring in daily life," and added, "SKT will grow into Korea's representative green ICT company in the net-zero era."
