Texas Instruments (TI) has added a sensor product to its automotive product line for autonomous driving and safety that enhances object detection performance in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

TI announced on the 5th that it recently launched the AWR2944, a 77GHz high-resolution radar sensor for vehicles.

Vehicle manufacturers are expected to utilize the new AWR2944 radar sensor to enhance advanced autonomous driving capabilities, such as detecting objects faster and monitoring blind spots to prevent collisions.

“Features such as changing lanes and navigating tight corners are complex challenges that TI’s automotive customers face during the design process,” said Yariv Raveh, Head of Millimeter-Wave Radar at TI. "For safe driving, driver assistance systems must be able to process large amounts of data quickly and accurately and communicate clearly with the driver," he said.

Vehicle manufacturers can utilize TI's new 77GHz AWR2944 radar sensor to achieve best-in-class radio frequency performance in a form factor 30% smaller than existing radar sensor products while meeting safety regulations.

In addition, the AWR2944 integrates a fourth transmitter, providing 33% higher resolution than conventional radar sensors, enabling vehicles to detect obstacles more accurately and avoid collisions.

In addition, the AWR2944 sensor's hardware supports Doppler division multiple access (DDMA) based signal processing and can detect approaching vehicles from a distance approximately 40% further than existing products.

To design vehicles capable of sensing their surroundings more efficiently, TI’s ADAS solutions include high-performance integrated system-on-chip radar sensors, high-efficiency edge AI processors, and vehicle-certified PMICs such as the LP87745-Q1 low-noise multi-rail power management IC (PMIC: Power-Management IC) microwave processor.

TI offers the AWR2944 evaluation module (AWR2944EVM) to enable customers to work quickly on development. The evaluation module is available for purchase on TI.com for $549, or $23.95 per 1,000 units.
