Intel is investing $20 billion to build two additional factories in Ohio, marking the first step toward a $100 billion investment over the next decade.

Intel announced on the 24th an initial investment plan of more than $20 billion to build two advanced semiconductor factories in Ohio, USA.

Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2022, with semiconductor manufacturing expected to begin in 2025 using the industry's most advanced transistor technology.

Ohio is where Intel is building its first new manufacturing facility in 40 years.

Intel's investment, the largest private sector investment in Ohio history, is expected to create tens of thousands of long-term jobs across the region's supplier and partner ecosystem, including 3,000 Intel jobs and 7,000 construction jobs in the initial phase.

The mega-site, which covers about 1,000 acres in Licking County, just outside Columbus, will reportedly house eight semiconductor factories, called "fabs," and support operations and ecosystem partners.>
At full expansion, the site could see investment increase to $100 billion over the next decade, transforming it into one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing complexes in the world.

Additionally, this investment is expected to attract dozens of ecosystem partners and suppliers to Ohio, including semiconductor equipment and materials suppliers that support Intel in the region.

Air Products, Applied Materials, LAM Research, and Ultra Clean Technology have announced plans to establish operations in Ohio to support Intel's site, with more companies expected to follow.
