Sogang University and SK Hynix have joined hands to foster next-generation semiconductor talent.

Sogang University signed a business agreement with SK Hynix on the 24th to foster next-generation semiconductor talent.

Through this agreement, Sogang University plans to establish a new 'Department of System Semiconductor Engineering' within the College of Engineering, with the Department of Electronic Engineering as the parent department, and jointly train semiconductor professionals with SK Hynix.

The signing ceremony was held virtually in consideration of the spread of Omicron, with key officials from both sides in attendance, including SK Hynix President of External Affairs Kim Dong-sup, Vice President of Corporate Culture Shin Sang-kyu, Vice President of Sustainability Kim Yun-wook, and Vice President of Tech Talent Kim Hyung-hwan, as well as Sogang University President Shim Jong-hyuk, Vice President for Academic Affairs Song Tae-kyung, Vice President for External Affairs Kim Soon-ki, Head of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Jung Hyun-sik, and Dean of the College of Engineering Choi Jung-woo.

Through this agreement, Sogang University will establish a contract department called the 'Department of System Semiconductor Engineering' within the College of Engineering with a capacity of 30 students and will select its first freshmen at the end of this year. Sogang University faculty will organize the newly established department with a curriculum specialized in design and semiconductor software required by SK Hynix, focusing on training semiconductor professionals tailored to the company.

Selected students will receive full tuition support from SK Hynix, and employment at SK Hynix will be guaranteed upon graduation. In addition, SK Hynix plans to jointly participate in overall academic operations, including student selection and educational support.

"Sogang University will spare no support at the university level to cultivate high-level semiconductor technology talent capable of meeting the demand for semiconductor industry technology, a core element of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."

SK Hynix President Kim Dong-sup stated, “As the pace of advanced technology development accelerates, the demand for top talent is rapidly increasing across all sectors of the semiconductor industry,” adding, “I expect that outstanding semiconductor talents capable of making their mark on the global stage will emerge through Sogang University’s excellent education system.”
