On the 14th, Mouser Electronics announced that it is supplying Infineon Technologies' XENSIV™ PAS CO2 sensor.

Based on photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS), this sensor uses a high-sensitivity MEMS microphone to detect pressure changes generated by CO2 molecules within the sensor space. Mouser has miniaturized this product, saving more than 75% of space in the final product compared to other CO2 sensors on the market.

The Infineon XENSIV PAS CO2 sensor provided by Mouser Electronics integrates a photoacoustic transducer including a detector, an infrared source, and an optical filter, a microcontroller for signal processing and algorithms, and a MOSFET driving the infrared source.

The integrated microcontroller converts the MEMS microphone output into usable ppm units via serial I²C, UART, or PWM interfaces. This sensor measures a range of 0 to 10,000 ppm with an accuracy of ±30 ppm or ±3% of the reading.

The sensor's direct ppm measurement, surface mount capability, and simple design allow for rapid integration into low- and high-volume applications such as smart homes, building automation designs, demand-controlled ventilation, air purifiers, thermostats, weather stations, and personal assistant functions.
