Sapion, a global AI semiconductor company, is set to target the U.S. digital broadcasting market by applying its AI semiconductor 'X220' to the ATSC3.0 digital TV broadcasting equipment of 'CAST.ERA,' a joint venture between SK Telecom and Sinclair Broadcast Group, the largest broadcaster in the U.S.

Sapion and Cast.era announced that they demonstrated ATSC 3.0-based broadcast equipment equipped with Sapion's X220 at NAB 2022, the world's largest broadcast equipment exhibition, held in Las Vegas, USA, for five days from the 23rd to the 27th.

Cast.era has applied AI upscaling technology based on Sapion X220 (converting low-resolution media into high-resolution media).

This has made it possible to process large-scale artificial intelligence computation tasks on data generated from ATSC 3.0 broadcasting equipment, a digital TV broadcasting standard, in real time.

In addition, based on high-performance, low-power AI computing, the resolution of broadcast video is FHD (Full HD).It is now possible to upgrade to high-quality UHD (Ultra HD) in real time.

Sapion announced that it achieved 3.5 times the power efficiency compared to equivalent GPUs in real-time broadcast upscaling applications.

Sapion's X220 is Korea's first non-memory semiconductor for data centers that executes large-scale computations for AI services at ultra-high speed and low power. Designed for simultaneous data processing, the X220 offers superior performance and cost-effectiveness compared to existing GPUs. Deep learning computation speeds are 1.5 times faster than existing GPUs, increasing data processing capacity by 1.5 times when applied to data centers.
