A Gartner report projected that global spending on information security and risk management will reach $172 billion in 2022. With spending on information security and management increasing every year, a venue was set up to present related solutions in response to the growing importance of cyber protection.

Dell Technologies held the 'Dell Technologies World 2022 (DTW2022)' event. At the event, new solutions and services were announced to strengthen cooperation with various leading cloud companies in order to effectively manage and protect applications in data center and multi-cloud environments.
■ Cyber Recovery Solutions in Distributed Environments

As multi-cloud environments emerge where data and applications are distributed across various data centers and colocation facilities as well as to the edge, there is a need for multi-cloud support solutions. Dell has introduced new options, such as managed cyber recovery solutions and public cloud cyber recovery solutions.

Dell explained that the 'Apex Cyber Recovery Service,' first announced at DTW 2022, simplifies the recovery process from cyber attacks based on a cloud user experience. To securely protect data, Dell manages the Cyber Vault and supports data recovery. Dell noted that the security analytics platform included within the 'Cyber Recovery' solution dynamically detects anomalies in the Vault and infrastructure, and as a simple Service-as-a-Service (aaS) offering, it provides standardized configurations and simple recovery options.

Dell also announced new integrated solutions to expand its ecosystem in the multi-cloud sector. The company explained that the newly launched 'Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for Microsoft Azure' provides security and an independent vault in the Azure environment. It was also added that Dell's data protection solutions are being offered as an offering available on Microsoft's public cloud, with services provided through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.

They emphasized that by deploying a Cyber Vault within the public cloud to securely protect and isolate data from ransomware attacks, cyber resilience is enhanced and the impact of cyber attacks is minimized. Furthermore, they highlighted that it supports flexible preparedness against cyber attacks by providing various recovery options, ranging from within the data center or a new Azure Private Network to unaffected Azure environments.

In addition, the newly announced 'CyberSense for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for AWS' monitors data integrity through analytics and machine learning capabilities to ensure continuous data quality, and provides attack detection and diagnosis capabilities through forensic tools, the company added.

■ Dell & Snowflake Collaboration

Through the collaboration between Dell and Snowflake, data within Dell's enterprise storage will be able to be connected to and used with the Snowflake Data Cloud. It is expected to enable more flexible data operations and respond to data sovereignty requirements in a multi-cloud environment.

The product collaboration and market sales of the two companies are scheduled to take place in the second half of this year. On-premises data stored in Dell Object Storage can be used in Snowflake Data Cloud to store locally (on-premises) while simultaneously being easily replicated to the public cloud.

Jeff Boudreau, General Manager of Dell Technologies’ Infrastructure Solutions Group, stated, “With the industry’s first integration between on-premises storage systems and the Snowflake Data Cloud, it is now possible to easily and quickly gain insights regardless of data location. Dell plans to continue expanding its collaboration with the SaaS vendor ecosystem to support broad data utilization between the public cloud and on-premises.”

■ Data storage services in the public cloud

In January of this year, Dell introduced a strategy to combine its storage and data protection solutions with the advantages of the public cloud through 'Project Alpine'. Project Alpine enables data mobility and the maintenance of consistent operational policies across on-premises and public cloud environments.

Dell emphasized that by freely moving data to the cloud to utilize cloud-based analytics services, developers can deploy applications wherever needed in a multi-cloud environment after development, thereby maintaining a continuous cloud-native user experience.

Kim Kyung-jin, General Manager of Dell Technologies Korea, said, “Today, customers want to utilize data with a common, uncomplicated approach regardless of where it is located, whether in the public cloud, data centers, or at the edge,” and explained, “In response to this, Dell Technologies is meeting customer needs by providing software and services that simplify on-premises and multi-cloud environments.”

Sam Grocutt, Senior Vice President at Dell Technologies, stated at DTW 2022, “Since the multi-cloud ecosystem is a key area of interest for industry stakeholders, Dell is also focusing on it,” adding, “We are striving to provide solutions that run natively in the public cloud, such as our collaboration with Snowflake.”
