A security solution has emerged that detects apps installed via unauthorized channels in advance and provides alerts, and is expected to help block apps exploited for voice phishing.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 18th that it is unveiling a new security solution that blocks the installation of malicious smartphone apps used for voice phishing.

This security solution detects malware in apps installed via unauthorized channels, such as official app stores, in advance and provides notifications to users.

This method not only blocks the installation of apps confirmed to have been exploited for voice phishing, but also displays a warning or blocking notification via a pop-up when an app from an unverified source is installed. In addition, smartphone users can view a list of apps from unverified sources and directly set control options for each app.

Additionally, after applying the security solution, you can completely block the installation of apps from unknown sources by selecting 'Do not allow all' under 'Biometrics and security' → 'Install apps from unknown sources' in Settings mode.

"Malicious apps that induce voice phishing are evolving into more sophisticated forms, such as being used not only to leak personal information but also to intercept phone calls," said Shin Seung-won, Senior Vice President of the Security Team at Samsung Electronics' MX Business Division. "We will do our best to minimize security threats so that users can use Galaxy devices with peace of mind."
