The paradigm of memory/storage utilization in data centers is undergoing a significant shift as data usage has exploded due to the recent development of cutting-edge industries such as AI, ML, and the metaverse. Accordingly, companies with hardware and software capabilities are cooperating with each other to achieve development.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 25th that it has decided to collaborate with global open source solution company Red Hat to develop software and expand the ecosystem related to next-generation memory solution technologies such as NVMe SSD, CXL memory, computational memory/storage, and fabric.

The two companies said they will actively cooperate in developing software solutions that include technologies that can utilize next-generation memory such as CXL and PIM, as well as fabrics that virtualize multiple memories/storage units, to ensure stable storage and processing of rapidly increasing data.

Samsung Electronics plans to open the 'Samsung Memory Research Cloud (SMRC)' in the second half of the year and provide an optimized environment for developing and evaluating next-generation memory solutions.

SMRC provides an environment for analyzing the optimal combination of hardware and software and evaluating the performance of customer servers equipped with Samsung Electronics' next-generation memory.

Bae Yong-cheol, Vice President of the AE Team of Samsung Electronics' Memory Business Division, said, "We expect that this collaboration with Red Hat will allow us to build a stable ecosystem along with technological standardization in the next-generation memory field, not only in hardware but also in software." He added, "Through this collaboration, we will expand cooperation with various partners in the industry and create new customer value."

<bMeanwhile, Samsung Electronics and Red Hat have agreed to cooperate to enable support for the memory software technology they are jointly developing in open source software, including Red Hat Linux, and to conduct verification and promotion together.

Samsung Electronics is actively developing various open-source software related to memory solutions and expanding collaboration with industry partners.
