Eleven companies and organizations from Korea and the Czech Republic have joined hands to collaborate on building a hydrogen mobility ecosystem in the Czech Republic.

The Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (H2KOREA) announced that it signed a multilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation in building a hydrogen mobility ecosystem between Korean and Czech industrial partners at the Energy Cooperation Dialogue held between the governments of the two countries on the 28th, with the attendance of the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Czech Minister of Industry and Trade.

This MOU was participated by H2KOREA, Hyundai Motor Company, and Hyundai Glovis from Korea, and 11 companies and organizations from the Czech Republic, including HYTEP (Czech Hydrogen Association), Tatra Truck, ZEBRA GROUP, Spolchemie, Orel Unipetrol RPA sro, UJV REZ, VITKOVICE CYLINDERS as, EUROWAG, DEVINN sro, Zasilkovna sro, and Iveco Czech Republic.

This MOU signing is the result of ongoing discussions between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea, H2KOREA, and Hyundai Motor Company with the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade since the end of last year. It is significant in that it will lay the foundation for companies and institutions from both countries to create a hydrogen economy business cooperation model for technological cooperation and commercialization to build a hydrogen mobility ecosystem in the Czech Republic.

To this end, participating organizations and companies in the MOU of both countries will: △exchange information in the hydrogen field △manufacture and demonstration of hydrogen mobility △We will focus our capabilities on building hydrogen charging infrastructure and developing and demonstrating low-carbon hydrogen production technology.

In particular, Korean companies will support the development and manufacturing of hydrogen mobility (hydrogen trucks, hydrogen buses, etc.) and establish a foundation for hydrogen mobility demonstration projects. They will also share know-how in building and operating charging stations and provide technology related to hydrogen charging stations to build charging infrastructure in the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic plans to build a hydrogen mobility ecosystem and establish an operational foundation by producing and demonstrating hydrogen mobility within the country and promoting the construction and operation of hydrogen charging infrastructure for this purpose.

Furthermore, the two countries will jointly pursue feasibility studies, joint technology development cooperation, and demonstrations for clean hydrogen production, and work together to establish a hydrogen storage and distribution system to supply the produced hydrogen to charging infrastructure.

This will lay the foundation for the implementation of the Czech National Green Mobility Action Plan and the Czech National Hydrogen Strategy, both of which were approved in April 2020, and is expected to accelerate efforts to achieve EU 2050 climate neutrality.

H2KOREA Chairman Moon Jae-do said, “This business agreement is significant in that it presents hydrogen business models for both countries through cooperation in the field of hydrogen mobility.” He added, “Furthermore, we hope that through this MOU, the hydrogen industries of Korea and the Czech Republic will expand across the entire cycle of production, storage, transportation, and utilization, leading to further growth.”
