The Korea Institute of Power Electronics (President Lee Taek-ki) is taking the lead in protecting intellectual property rights for software in the field of power electronics technology.

On the 5th, the Power Electronics Society signed a business agreement with the Korea Software Copyright Association at Hanwha Resort Gyeongju to protect software copyrights and create an environment for using genuine software.

Through this agreement, the two organizations pledged mutual cooperation to enhance the protection and usability of intellectual property rights for power electronics technology, a key field in the semiconductor, green energy, autonomous driving, and space and aviation eras, and to contribute to raising awareness of proper software intellectual property protection.

The Power Electronics Society and the Korea Software Copyright Association announced plans to engage in mutual cooperation to ensure the sustainable growth of the entire related industry by establishing sound distribution and a proper software usage culture in the software sector.

Power electronics technology is a core technology field that supports digital transformation, utilizing power semiconductors to control and convert general electrical energy into various forms for devices, equipment, or specialized applications. In particular, it is predicted that growth will be seen in cutting-edge industries such as autonomous driving, renewable energy, advanced aircraft and defense, and aerospace, and it is also expected that many new intellectual property protection issues will arise.

Both organizations emphasized that they will continue future-oriented mutual cooperation plans, such as information sharing and data exchange for acquiring new technologies, through continuous exchange and cooperation.

They will jointly promote related academic events and campaign activities to spread a culture of using genuine software, and will also provide software asset management consulting services to establish an environment for using genuine software, including proper software usage and management methods for universities and companies.

At the signing ceremony, Lee Taek-ki, President of the Power Electronics Society, stated, “By signing this MOU, the Power Electronics Society will raise awareness of software copyright and cooperate in the use of genuine software and copyright protection.” He added, “Since the power electronics field uses various software, including simulations, the Society is actively participating in the use of genuine software.”

Chairman Lee, who stated that in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the growth of hardware technology drives the growth of the software industry and the growth of software technology enables the development of the hardware industry, said, “Through the cooperation of the two organizations, we will create an opportunity for both the advanced technology industry sector, such as semiconductors, and the software industry sector to grow together.”

Yoo Byung-han, Chairman of the Korea Software Copyright Association, emphasized that electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and cloud servers, which have emerged as the next-generation core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, are advanced and convergent technology fields realized through the combination of advanced power semiconductor technology and SW infrastructure. He stated, “To achieve greater heights, close cooperation between the two industrial sectors is required, including domestic power semiconductor technology that is recognized for its competitiveness in the global market and the establishment of SW technology development infrastructure based on it.”div style="text-align: center;">
