The MCU market is steadily expanding amidst the advancements in industrial and home appliance IoT products, as well as 5G and connected car technologies. Amidst intensifying competition in this market, Nuvoton, which has established a branch in Korea, is making full-scale moves, signaling fierce competition in the MCU market.

Nuvoton Technology, a comprehensive semiconductor company, held a press conference on the 26th at the InterContinental COEX Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul, to announce the establishment of a Korean branch and its strategy.

Nuvoton, which has operations in eight countries around the world, established a branch in Korea in 2020, but experienced a hiatus in its domestic business due to the impact of COVID-19. Since then, the company has been taking steps to strengthen its presence in the domestic market by acquiring Panasonic of Japan.

Nuvoton, which has a diverse portfolio including microcontrollers (MCUs), image sensing, home appliance MCUs, and semiconductor components, is particularly specialized in MCUs, with Taiwan Nuvoton's MCU types reaching over 700 types.

On that day, Nuvoton Chairman Yuanmou Su stated, "Nuvoton currently ranks seventh globally in MCU sales and is focusing on supporting diverse IoT applications, including industrial control and motor control." He added, "Since acquiring Panasonic, we have been able to double our R&D workforce and expand our product portfolio and sales channels."

Ahn Jeong-mo, the branch manager of Nuvoton Technology Korea, expressed confidence, saying that Nuvoton has strengths in MCU security solutions and developer technical support. Security-related issues are a major concern in recent developments, and security features in MCUs are essential to prevent the increasing number of IoT security incidents.
CEO Ahn said, “Security features must be provided from the time the chip is powered on until it starts operating normally and communicating with other clouds through the network,” and added, “We provide a security solution that safely stores various user information, such as fingerprint information and voice information, to prevent them from being hacked.”

Nuvoton unveiled the NuMicro M2354 and M2351 MCUs, featuring the Arm Cortex M23 processor, and the latest high-end MPUs featuring the Arm Cortex A35 processor. Focusing on Arm-based chipset development, Nuvoton offers secure boot, secure connection, and secure storage capabilities, making them ideal for security-focused applications.

Recently, MCU manufacturers have gone beyond simply supplying chipsets to offer full-stack developer support solutions, including various libraries, operating systems, and platforms. Nuvoton is also building a developer ecosystem and providing development support solutions through its HMI platform. We provide all-in-one solutions to our customers by offering HMI applications, graphic libraries, OS, BSP, and software tools.

These packaged solutions not only shorten the development time for inexperienced developers, but also help experienced developers shorten the development time and achieve rapid product mass production.

Meanwhile, Nuvoton will host a "New Energy Solutions/Smart IoT Seminar and Product Presentation" at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul on the 27th. Nuvoton plans to showcase applications in five areas: smart homes, visual sensing, and industrial security-related smart IIoT solutions.
