Professor Jong-Kwan Yuk of Yonsei University, who was newly appointed as the president of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, expressed his ambition to expand his expertise beyond the IT field to include the fields of national defense and security, and to promote convergence research and exchanges with various fields.

At the 34th regular general meeting of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science held on the 18th, Professor Jong-Kwan Yuk of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Yonsei University was elected as the 25th president.

The 34th Annual General Meeting and Fall Conference of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science was held at the The K Hotel Seoul. The event featured various paper presentations and special presentation sessions, as well as greetings from the incoming president and executive board, who will lead the society for the coming year.

On this day, Professor Jong-Kwan Yuk of Yonsei University was elected as the 25th President of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science. Professor Yuk is an electromagnetic expert with a leading research track record in the field of electromagnetic numerical analysis. He has accumulated a diverse academic and published career in RF and microwave circuits and systems, as well as EMI, EMC, and EMP theory and technology.

Professor Cho Chun-sik of Korea Aerospace University was appointed as the next senior vice president. The following vice-chairmen were appointed: △Ko Chang-hyu, Vice President of the Korea Communications Commission; △Kook Chan-ho, Head of LIG Nex1; △Kim Chan-hong, Center Director of the Agency for Defense Development; △Park Seung-geun, Head of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute; △Park Young-cheol, Professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies; △Park Jong-gwan, Managing Director of SK Telecom; △Park Hyeok, Managing Director of Hanwha Systems; △Yoo Hyeon-gil, President of Anritsu Corporation; and △Lee Jae-seong, Professor at Korea University.

At the regular general meeting held that day, the next president of the Society of Korean Medicine said, “I feel an immense sense of responsibility for taking on this important position,” and added, “As I lead the Society in 2023, I would like to focus on the internal growth of the Society’s members.”

He stated, “We aim to expand our expertise beyond the IT field to include defense and security, and also to promote convergence research and exchanges with various fields,” and presented the vision for the society for 2023, including fostering young researchers, activating mutual exchanges with policymakers and researchers, and actively promoting international exchanges.

Park Seong-wook, the current president of the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, expressed his gratitude for concluding his term, saying, “I am deeply grateful for having been entrusted with the important responsibility of being the president of the society in 2022,” and “This year, he led the growth of the society in the fields of 6G low-orbit and national defense.”

Korean electromagnetic wavesSince its founding in 1989, the society has been serving as a focal point for academic and policy research related to electromagnetic waves for 34 years.

Meanwhile, the event featured various awards for research achievements and activities, including the Academic Achievement Award, the Outstanding Paper Award, the Outstanding Researcher Award, and the Young Researcher Award. Professors Jeon Sang-geun of Korea University and Yang Young-gu of Sungkyunkwan University received the Outstanding Researcher Award, while Professor Oh Jun-taek of Soongsil University received the Young Researcher Award.

Additionally, Professor Jae-Young Jeong of Seoul National University of Science and Technology received the Best Reviewer Award, and Professor Ho-Seong Choo of Hongik University received the JEES Most Cited Achievement Award.

The 2022 Academic Award went to Professor Ko Il-seok of Inha University. This prestigious award is given to a member who has contributed to academic advancement by publishing numerous outstanding papers in the field of electromagnetic waves.
