ON Semi to Offer EliteSiC 1200V Traction Inverter Power Modules

Onsemi provides solutions to support front and rear traction inverters in Volkswagen electric vehicle models.

Onsemi announced on the 27th that it has signed a strategic agreement with Volkswagen AG (hereinafter referred to as Volkswagen).

The agreement is designed to provide modules and semiconductors that will enable complete electric vehicle traction inverter solutions for Volkswagen's next-generation platform family.

As a first step in this agreement, Onsemi will provide Elite Silicon Carbide (EliteSiC) 1200V traction inverter power modules. EliteSiC power modules feature a common pin configuration, allowing solutions to be easily scaled to various power levels and motor types. Onsemi and Volkswagen teams have been collaborating for over a year on optimizing power modules for the next-generation platform, with pre-production samples under development and evaluation.

Through its 19 wafer fabrication and packaging facilities, Onsemi supplies Volkswagen with more than 500 different devices, including IGBTs, MOSFETS, image sensors, and power management integrated circuits (PMICs).

In addition to its versatile portfolio, ON Semiconductor offers a vertically integrated SiC production chain including boule growth, wafering, substrate, epitaxy, device fabrication, and best-in-class integrated module and individual package solutions, fully supporting a secure supply chain for Volkswagen.
