Microchip Technology (Asia General Manager and Korea Representative Han Byung-don), a global leader in microcontrollers, mixed-signal, analog semiconductors, and Flash-IP solutions, is expanding its facilities at the Colorado Springs campus in the U.S. to strengthen production capacity and fully respond to the increasing demand for semiconductors across various industries.

Microchip announced on the 20th that it is investing $880 million (approximately 1.1 trillion won) to expand the silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon (Si) production capacity of its manufacturing facility in Colorado Springs, USA.

Through this investment, Microchip plans to develop and enhance its Colorado Springs campus, spanning 60,000 and 16,000 square feet, to increase its manufacturing capabilities for silicon carbide (SiC) used in automotive/electric vehicles, grid infrastructure, eco-friendly energy, and aerospace and defense applications.

Microchip's Colorado Springs campus currently employs more than 850 people and produces products on 6-inch wafers.

Through this investment, Microchip will expand its facilities and drive 8-inch wafers, significantly increasing semiconductor chip production here.

Through this, we expect to create over 400 additional jobs, ranging from production positions to technical positions such as equipment procurement and management, process control, and test engineering.

For this expansion, together with the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and the EDC (Economic Growth Cooperative), ColoThe City of Rado Springs and El Paso County are reported to have approved incentives worth approximately $47 million (about 58 billion KRW) to expand and develop microchips.
