It has been argued that while generative AI is a hot topic, it faces the same fundamental challenges as broad-based AI.


Omdia, a technology research and advisory group of Informa Tech, released its '2023 Generative AI Market Outlook Report' on the 14th.

In this report, Omdia Senior Analyst Mark Beccue analyzes the entire generative AI ecosystem in 2023, including the rapidly evolving generative AI market, use cases, key users, and reasons for selection, to help readers understand the generative AI market trends.

Omdia defines this year as the “very early market phase” of generative AI, noting that the coming year will not only bring significant confusion about what generative AI is and what it does, but also an explosion of creative innovation in how generative AI can be used.

However, according to Omdia, while the recent global excitement surrounding Chat GPT, the potential opportunities, and the steady proliferation of generative AI have become a reality, generative AI doesn't solve the market problems faced by any other type of AI.

“Generative AI initiatives are currently at the forefront of A“It fails to address the fundamental challenges we face, such as bias, privacy, accountability, consistency, and explainability, and could actually significantly complicate the problems that already exist,” he stressed.

According to him, the Large Language Model (LLM), which is the source of the current generative AI output results, is trained using public data that may contain harmful language or biased content regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, language, culture, etc., so the output results themselves may be biased or inappropriate.

He further noted that, like most deep learning AI, it's difficult to clearly explain generative AI output because the source data that led to the results cannot be easily traced. Explainability is a "challenge across AI," the report states, but the issue is even more acute for generative AI output, which by definition is considered "created" and novel.

Omdia's recently released report, "Generative AI Market Landscape 2023," includes research results analyzing all issues related to generative AI.
