Dell Updates Software to Enhance Zero Trust Security, Automation, and Energy Efficiency

Dell Technologies is leading customers' multi-cloud transition by releasing software updates across its storage portfolio that enhance cyber resilience, energy efficiency, and automation.
Dell announced on the 12th that it has released software updates across its PowerStore and storage portfolios that enhance Zero Trust security, automation, and energy efficiency.
Over the past 12 months, Dell has focused on software innovation and implemented more than 2,000 improvements to its storage portfolio across its industry-leading external storage products. Existing customers can access these enhancements at no additional cost, while new customers can utilize them on-premises or through the Dell APEX offering as a service.
Dell's intelligent all-flash storage, PowerStore, supports the implementation of the Zero Trust model. Zero Trust is a security architecture that continuously verifies users and resources within an IT environment to authorize only verified objects and operations.
Through PowerStore's new security software enhancements, users can accelerate Zero Trust adoption to more effectively prevent and respond to cyber attacks. Newly enhanced features include STIG reinforcement, immutability snapshots, simplified file permissions, improved file resilience, and multi-factor authentication.
It helps Dell's customers maximize the use of their existing IT infrastructure while reducing operating costs and saving energy through advanced software automation and multi-cloud management. New features related to this include enhanced DevOps workflows and native integration of Dell PowerProtect.
In this update, PowerStore has achieved up to 60% higher IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second) per watt compared to the previous version and has acquired new ENERGY STAR certified specifications. According to a recent IDC survey, energy efficiency and sustainability were cited as one of the most important factors in IT purchasing decisions, and Dell is focusing on meeting these requirements.
In addition to PowerStore, Dell introduced extensive software innovations across its storage portfolio.
"As data continues to accumulate and an increasing number of organizations struggle to find skilled IT talent, we must enable them to do more with fewer people," said Kim Kyung-jin, General Manager of Dell Technologies Korea. "We expect that through the storage software innovations introduced by Dell, customers will be able to maximize the return on their IT investments by increasing energy efficiency, improving productivity, and strengthening cyber resilience."
Enhancements to Dell PowerStore and ObjectScale are scheduled to be available in June 2023, while Dell PowerMax, CloudIQ, and UnityXT features are available immediately. The Dell PowerFlex update is scheduled to be rolled out in the third quarter of 2023.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.

Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation. Ecolab plans to combine its water management and digital monitoring capabilities with CoolIT's hardware technology to expand its data center cooling business.
