On the 5th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups held the 5th 'Fabless-Foundry Win-Win Council (hereinafter Win-Win Council)' at Tipstown in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with the participation of the Korea Fabless Industry Association, four domestic foundries including Samsung Electronics, and members of the Innovation Network Forum Semiconductor Subcommittee.

The Win-Win Council is a regular communication channel involving the fabless industry, foundries, and officials from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to secure competitiveness in Korea's fabless industry and system semiconductors in general, and this marks its 5th meeting.

Since last year, a total of four meetings have been held to discuss plans to expand the MPW process, a product development method that places multiple project chip designs on a single wafer for prototype or research purposes, as well as support programs for fabless companies.

At this mutual cooperation council, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups explained the 'Open Innovation Promotion Plan for Super-Gap Startups,' which encourages active collaboration and exchange with large corporations, public institutions, and global companies to strengthen the global competitiveness of fabless startups in rapidly growing new industrial sectors, and listened to the opinions of the attendees.

Secretary General of the Korea Fabless Association and Innovation NetworkThe Chairman of the Semiconductor Subcommittee of the K-Forum presented 'Policies to Foster Fabless Startups and Measures for Technology Exchange Between New Industries' and 'Plans to Establish a Semiconductor Ecosystem for Demand Linkage,' respectively.
Kang Ki-sam, Team Leader of the Future Industry Strategy Team at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, stated, “To strengthen the competitiveness of the system semiconductor industry, a core industry of our country, open innovation involving mutual cooperation with foundries and public institutions centered on fabless companies is very important,” adding, “The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will continue to support open innovation to strengthen the global competitiveness of startups in new industrial sectors, such as fabless companies.”
