KT helps manage safe operation and efficient operation schedules with its intelligent UAM traffic management system.

KT announced on the 5th that it had unveiled its intelligent UAM traffic management system for the first time at the '23 Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Flight Demonstration Event' held in Goheung, Jeollanam-do on the 3rd, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The event was held to promote the Korean UAM demonstration project through a flight demonstration using domestically developed aircraft and the country's first vertiport. KT, along with Incheon International Airport Corporation, Korean Air, Hyundai Motor Company, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction, which are collaborating on the "K-UAM Grand Challenge Phase 1 Demonstration Project," set up an exhibition booth to showcase KT's UAM traffic management system and 5G aviation network technology.

KT introduced its UAM traffic management system, "SkyEyes," claiming that "AI-based traffic management can help ensure safe UAM operation and efficient schedule management." Based on UAM traffic digital twin technology, it predicts flight demand and derives optimal schedules. Furthermore, uninterrupted communication ensures safe UAM flight management, and dynamic traffic management can be implemented based on real-time changes in flight conditions.

KT also introduced 'Sky Link', a 5G aviation network technology dedicated to UAM. The technology includes 3D coverage design technology to prevent coverage holes or interference at UAM's operating altitude, network slicing technology to ensure transmission quality for key traffic, and specialized antenna technology to efficiently secure 5G aviation network coverage. This allows for stable 5G service even at UAM's operating altitude of 300-600 meters.

KT will participate in the traffic management field of the "K-UAM Grand Challenge Phase 1 Demonstration Project" in the first half of 2024. Leveraging its proprietary UAM traffic management system and 5G aviation network technology, KT will support the stable operation of UAM.

Kim Bong-gi, executive director of the Convergence Research Lab at KT Convergence Technology Institute, said, "As a UAM traffic management operator, KT is developing various technologies, such as UAM traffic digital twin and AI flight control technology, to provide safe and reliable UAM traffic management services." He added, "We will also work closely with the consortium to successfully carry out the K-UAM Grand Challenge demonstration project."
